Permitting and Fee Structures
Local jurisdictions' development permitting and fee structures can be used to generate local funds to help improve and maintain existing housing. The funds generated can also be used for the creation of new affordable housing units.
Cost
Developers and contractors are not enthusiastic about additional fees, so time and effort should be invested early to earn their support. Time and money will likely be needed to advocate for an increase in permitting fees, and jurisdictions will need to budget time to pass appropriate legislation.
Timeframe
1-2 years (or more) to change the fee structure, plus regular time investments in budgeting and allocating funds.
